This has that golden era sound, boom bap with voices that both sound like a mix of Ill Bill and Evidence. Lifeline is significantly more complex than Scoob Rock, but it works to showcase his ability, while Scoob Rock has a unique enough delivery that it isn’t boring. Pushing a message of just trying to elevate your art. This is mostly storytelling, no need to be ducking any punches here. Beats are scratchy and trunk-ish but vocals are clean and the opposed production gives a brightness to the mix. Samples, cutting, and scratches are all super dope. When the pair are bragging, at least they are using imagery and similes instead of just telling you what it is. Even the more technical parts are really palatable with effective use of pauses. For the most part this album is upbeat or inspirational, but ain’t for the suburbs, this is concrete hip hop through and through.
